"Happy"Guest Curator: Ryan Steadman
January 9 - 31, 2004 O·H+T gallery is pleased to present "Happy", an exhibition of works by Louisa Chase, Michael Lazarus, Carl Ostendarp, David Dupuis, Thomas Trosch and Michael Dumontier. Happy was curated by Ryan Steadman whose solo show, Something Else, was exhibited at O·H+T gallery in October, 2002. Steadman writes the following about the exhibition's concept and artists: "I'm a conflicted person, so I'm interested in conflicted people or things. "Happy" grew out of a need to reassure myself that other people aren't always so sure... that some feelings aren't so easy. You can look at 'being happy' as a state that never really exists purely; there's always something dark that piggy-backs your happy feelings. It can be small or life changing. Can hit you instantly, or far far off in the future. But it will happen... ha ha ha ha ha! Lisa Sanditz's painting expresses the joy of nature, but there is overripe lust hidden within. Ryan Steadman lives in Brooklyn and has worked at Feature Inc. and Elizabeth Dee Gallery in New York. All of the artists, except Michael Dumontier (who lives in Toronto and is a member of the Royal Art Lodge), live or exhibit their work in New York. |
