Handwriting on the Wall 2Katherine Jackson & Henry Mandell
June 6 - 28, 2003 O·H+T gallery is pleased to present Handwriting on the Wall 2, the second in a series of exhibitions dealing with writing and/or text. This exhibition includes the work of Boston artist, Katherine Jackson, and introduces the work of New York artist, Henry Mandell. Katherine Jackson's work reflects her continuing interest in the point where perception and comprehension blur. Using passages from poems, prose, and song lyrics, she moves back and forth between the 'lines' of writing, and the 'lines' of drawing or painting. As Jackson transcribes text in her meticulous, tiny script, she allows words to break down into rhythmically attuned dots or pulses. Her most recent work responds to the war in Iraq. In the Lost Text series of Iris prints, she further distorts/dissects the actual written passage. "By deliberately avoiding trying to say something about contemporary events (and in particular about the fate of the ancient manuscripts of Baghdad), I hoped to tap into deeper levels of my response," Jackson says. |
