Blue Rapunzel Series

Elizabeth Marran

April 4 - 26, 2003
Reception: Friday, April 4, 5:30 - 7:30 pm

O·H+T gallery is pleased to present Blue Rapunzel, a portfolio of digital prints by Elizabeth Marran, in celebration of Boston Print Month and the 2003 Southern Graphics Print Conference.

Marran's imagery is abstract. Lines and geometric shapes interact with humorous, cartoon-like figures. Energized by highly saturated, toy store color, cool arrangements of forms pose before mechanically patterned backdrops. These works reflect Marran's continuing exploration of complex domestic issues. Fueled by her interest in the daily activities of child rearing, housekeeping, etc., she explores these tasks and relationships as metaphors for order and chaos, stability and transition, structure and freedom. The use of digital technology to print on handmade Japanese paper, emphasizes the contradictory nature of Marran's message.

Elizabeth Marran lives and works in Cambridge. She currently teaches at University of Massachusetts, Boston, and has shown her work nationally and internationally. Her prints are in the collections of the Fogg Art Museum and the Boston Public Library. This is Marran's first exhibition at O·H+T gallery.
